Political & Legislative Experience

Jane's public work experience spans the job categories of a congressional office: intern, district agricultural caseworker, legislative assistant, subcommittee staff Director and Chief of Staff. After leaving Capitol Hill, Jane started a business as an agriculture, international trade and environmental lobbyist representing various clients.

Her legislative activities include working closely with the House and Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committees to obtain funding for various trade, research and rural development programs.  She has also worked with the House and Senate Agriculture Committees on trade, the federal crop insurance program and domestic agriculture policy.

In 1986, Ms. Shey sought the Democratic Nomination for the 6th Congressional District of Iowa, hoping to represent the largely rural population she knew and understood so well.  She placed second in a five-person race and then returned to Capitol Hill to serve as a Legislative Assistant for Representative Timothy J. Penny (D-MN).
