Global Livestock Collaborative Research Support Program

Jane Shey served as a Board Member of the Global Livestock Collaborative Research Support Program  (GL-CRSP) from 1995 to 2000, and has been involved with the program in the years since. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the goal of the GL-CRSP is "to increase food security and improve the quality of life of people in developing countries while bringing an international focus to the research, teaching and extension efforts of U.S. institutions. This goal is to be met through collaboration between U.S. land-grant institutions and national and regional institutions abroad that are active in livestock research and development."

In 2009, Jane participated in the GL-CRSP's Final Conference, held in  Naivasha, Kenya. The conference agenda included presentations on key findings from over a decade's worth of GL-CRSP projects from Africa to Asia. Panel discussions also addressed research methods and project design; community mobilization; and zoonotic diseases. Participants also enjoyed poster sessions and ample time to network, discuss lessons learned, and "talk shop," inspired by the backdrop of the beautiful--but environmentally and socio-economically pressured--Lake Naivasha and its surrounding areas.

UN Climate Change Conference

Jane Shey served as delegate for the City of Minneapolis to ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference included the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), various meetings for ICLEI delegates and a peaceful march by the 5th Meeting of the Parties (MOP 5) to the Kyoto Protocol.

USDA Cochran Training Program

The USDA Cochran Program is a federally-funding training program for international leaders from government and the private sector. These programs are conducted in the U.S. and allow for specific training in various agricultural areas. Jane has organized numerous agriculture policy training programs for government officials from Europe, Africa, Asia and Russia. This included visits with decision-makers and USDA officials in Washington, DC, and visits to key agriculture states. Some of the topics have included agricultural credit; the agriculture policy process; animal and plant inspections and safety systems; and small farm business and marketing practices. Other Experience

Jane Shey has worked in-country with foreign decision makers. In Croatia, Jane conducted an analysis of agriculture policy for US AID. In Russia, Jane provided technical assistance on a farm bill policy for government officials and non-governmental organizations.
